Top music managers launch Primary Violator
Ray Mestel's Primary Wave Music and Chris Lighty's Violator Management are merging their talent management interests in to a new entity, Primary Violator. Primary reps Cee Lo Eco-friendly, Ginuwine, Eric Benet, Goodie Mob and Wilson Phillips, among others. Violator's top functions include 50 Cent, Mariah Carey, LL Awesome J and Soulja Boy. New unit will employ Primary Wave's in-house branding company Brand Synergy Group and online marketing company BrightShop and Lighty's Brand Resource Group, plus Mestel's in-house film, TV, gaming, advertising and TV team of designers. Individually, Primary Wave works a prominent indie posting arm. Prior to starting Primary Wave, Boss Mestel held lower executive positions at Island, Arista and Virgin. Before founding Violator, Boss Lighty labored with Russell Simmons and Lyor Cohen at Hurry Management and Def Jam Records. Also became a member of inside the endeavor is Primary Wave Talent Management prexy Michael "Blue" Williams, whose former clients incorporated OutKast, Belief Evans, Macy Gray, Nick Cannon and Monica.
